Freshman year

School ended for me yesterday, and just like when other things have ended, I come here to reflect on it.

I cannot, cannot, cannot, CANNOT, believe that was my freshman year- and it's over. 25% of high school, done. Just like that.

When I was younger I thought about me being 15. I thought, 'That's such a weird age!'. 15. You're older than 13 but not 16 and wow, you're just old. Yeah, I feel old. But not in a good way. When I thought about being older when I was younger, I imagined myself having an amazing boyfriend, having all these adventures, and, I don't know, just teenage moments! And they've happened, but are a rarity.

When I relfected on my summer last year, it helped change my perspective when I blogged photos of it. I hadn't realized all I'd done! So here are some pictures of my first year as a high schooler, let's see what went down...

When I thought I was a badass being on the roof of my school during orientation ;)

COUNTIES♥

SCIENCE PD. 7 &8 ♥

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!

So, like always, turned out I did do a lot! And had a lot of fun while doing it. I love looking back on things because it forces you to remember what a great life you really do have and all the memories you've created, but might've forgotten! I have to say the highlight of my year had to have been track, I'm so grateful I had all the experiences it has given me this year and I'm too excited for the years to come. :)

These past few months.

These past few months have been the most hectic ever. Between failing every subject basically one week, and then becoming a genius in a matter of days, my production of Once Upon a Mattress ending while I tried to start getting ready for spring track: I was a mess.

My musical was a little less then a month ago. Oh gosh, what I learned from that experience. It made me realize plenty of things.

1.) DON'T TRY TO REPLICATE THINGS, IT WON'T WORK

It's like the sequel to the Sandlot, it just isn't as good. Last year, in 8th grade, I had a truly amazing experience in my school's drama club. Everything just added up to this formula for a great success. I was friends with everyone, the director had everything under control, the stage crew teacher was one of the coolest men on this planet, the play was a bit obscure and it was a learning process getting accustomed to it that made for great memories! So basically, I walked into this new experience, in a totally different school, with totally different people all in a completely different musical expecting it to be the same. And it wasn't. Which, is partially my fault. I can't just sit back and let whatever magic happened last time, just magically appear all over again. If you want something to be enjoyable, you make it enjoyable. And, for the most part I didn't. So I really didn't like some of the people, well that doesn't mean I sit and complain and talk about how I'd rather be at track. So I really hated staying at school until nine at night, well that doesn't mean I sit and complain and talk about how I'd rather be at track. So people were mean and my costume was horrendously funny, well that doesn't mean I sit and complain and talk about how I'd rather be at track.

Do you see a pattern?

2.) I LOVE TRACK.

When drama ended a lot of seniors (and even some lower classmen) made speeches about how drama is the best two/three months of their lives. How the relationships they've made will last for years after they graduate and how they just can't even describe the joy they get from coming here. And while the speeches moved me and on certain aspects I did agree with them, I kept on thinking of track while they rambled on and on about drama. And how every word they said was how I felt about track. I love going to practice, I love the people, I love the crazy situations we get into, I love running, I love the coaches, I love weight room conversations, I love playing potato chips in the lobby looking like an idiot, I love the stupid things we come up with, I love beating myself at meets, I love loving track. That's it. And I'm so happy I'm back. :)

Me today running my 100 :)

** Drama isn't all the hell-hole I portrayed it to be these past couple months, yes it made me threaten to kill myself multiple times a day I'd say but in the end, a show is a show. And if you get joy out of putting it on, it was worth it. And I did I love putting on the show and I definitely don't regret my decision on auditioning. Will I do it next year? Only time will tell, but as of now I don't hate drama, even though you might think I do. :) Song stuck in my head today: "Song of Love" from Once Upon a Mattress :P Keep on keepin' on, Madison

WHY IS MY LIFE SO CONFUSING: SCHOOL. (15)

Fifteen... you've been nothing but ____ to me.

confusing

I'm failing math one day then the next I'll get 100 on my test. I want to good in school but then I lose the motivation for it. I KNOW I can get 100 on everything. If I try. If I study. If I just kick it into high gear and stop doodling hearts on my desk. I can do it. But I just don't know if I really really want to. If it's for me. I will never ever use 75% of my high school curriculum in my REAL life. So what's the point? What is the hair-pulling stress of studying all night long giving me but a lovely advanced regents diploma to frame and send off to multiple colleges. I'm glad I spend my time here, on Blogger or on Tumblr being inspired, seeing a glimpse of the world I very much want to divulge into. I'm glad I spend my time chatting hours away with my best friends I'll share my life with, with my cousin who is my sister to be honest, and with the person that might never know how much I really care for him. I'm glad I choose to watch rock-docs all night instead of obsessing over every little detail in my textbook. But then I get a talk from my parents, or from my high school's graduates telling me, "Yeah you shouldn't get INSANE about grades, but please please please try your best! You can get that 100." And lately, actually all my life almost, I've never known what my whole potential was. It's so freaking frustrating.

Some moments where I felt on top of the world (based on accomplishments):

- My first race at the Armory. (Y'know the one when afterwards I basically attacked you and you said "You tore that shit up man!" AND I COULDN'T OF BEEN HAPPIER. Wait... you're not reading this I should stop.)
- When I got the second highest grade on my Earth Science midterm last year. (Science is my least favorite subject)
- When I got the only 100 in my English class last week on this impossible quiz.

You see with my track accomplishment that mattered more to me, I can still come back to it and feel the way I felt that night. It lasted with me, and hopefully will last with me. With the grades they're just happy little moments. Nothing I'll tell my kids about or even remember.

There's so so SO many more confusing aspects of my life right now, so I'll definitely be posting more of these. Definitely.

My mind is not the place you want to be right now. I'm constantly up and down.

In the morning I wake up, I'm depressed. I want to watch the sunrise snug on my couch with a cup of tea. Not on the dead silent bus hitting potholes freezing my entire body off.

When I get to class I'm wondering why I've been such a grouch. I'm laughing my head off with my friends and my teacher is actually being really funny.

When I sit down in math, I'm depressed. I wonder why in the world I need to know how to prove ABCD a parallelogram. WHEN AM I GOING TO USE THIS? HOW WILL THIS STOP CHILD HUNGER? Let me know when you find out.

When I get to lunch, I'm depressed. Waiting on the lunch line by myself I remember why I hate this school. Dear gang of kids, I am not interested in hearing about the planning of your poker night or how you hooked up with so and so last weekend. I don't want to know you're grounded this week for having pot and I would really recommend you treat the lunch ladies with some more respect. After all they choose to put up with you for a living.

When I get to social studies, I'm wondering why I've been such a grouch. I'm laughing once again and creating great memories.

When I get to science, I'm wondering why I've been such a grouch. I'm with you.

When I get to art, I'm sorta depressed. I love love love my project but I hate hate hate hearing about your blow job while I'm trying to draw the London bridge. Ugh.

And throughout this whole crazy day I just think and think and think and think. Think about you, a lot. Think about why I'm here, a lot. And think about why I'm not doing something absolutely crazy and amazing and great right now. I'm stuck here. But I sort of like it. And I really hate it. I don't make any sense anymore and I'm constantly craving the summer. Constantly. I want the warm weather, I want to trade my cardigans for racer backs and my jeggings for cut up shorts. I want to go for a run without killing myself on the ice during the process. I want to have fun, and this tedious week is not for me.

Song stuck in my head today: how 'bout you just sit here and listen to my new playlist? (Added some stuff, deleted some songs that were wrong)

Back to Basics: A Flower List Update

Do you like where you live?

20% said GET ME OUT OF HERE.
10% said Yep, it's a nice place!
70% said Eh, it's a love hate relationship
0% said I'm never in one spot for long!
0% said It's ok (:
and...
0% said I love it!!

I have to deal with it everyday. Wheter it be browsing my Facebook newsfeed, or sitting in geometry:

"I hate this town!" "I can't wait until I leave." "When's graduation?" "Yeah, this town…definitely not my favorite place." "There's nothing to do here!" "Get me out of here!"

I'm not perfect. I hate this town too when I get into one of those crappy moods. But that's it: you can't let it get to you. I know you're wired right now with all this weird and for no good reason teenage angst and you can only see beyond the confines of your dramatic high school life, but please try to keep a hold of your emotions. I'm tired of hearing all these remarks about our town. I try to be optimistic in this life of mine. Look around you people, you live in a great place!!!! Believe it or not you're in one of the richest areas in the nation. My dad tells me allll the time, not to forget how crazy it is where we live. Go down south to Georgia or whatever you can buy a house twice the size of ours with half the price. Why maybe? It could be because we have an excellent school district, and a great location. So suck it up! I think living in an area where some of the surrounding towns were in the top ten Forbes list of most affluent areas is pretty damn good.

You still want to hear my rant against my town? Okay here it goes,

I hate the people here. I hate walking around the halls in school with this need to be perfect lingering above everyones heads. You created this aura Miss. Hunter boots, and yet you sit here day after day crying about your life. Your life draped in Tiffany jewelry and spring break trips to Europe. I have some advice for you then if you want to change. Stop pressuring yourself and everyone to be perfect, stop hooking up with guys that treat you like crap and are just thinking about your best friend while they're trying to get some with you. Stop being mean and judgemental towards people and maybe you'll get some true friends with less drama involved. Stop thinking your life revolves around Cheer, or that you're some Olympian because you can successful do a couple back hand springs or whatever. Stop posting pictures of yourself on Facebook drunk, don't talk about how your best friend lost her virginity to the same guy as you did and now she's copying you. What kind of freaking reputation do you think that's setting up for you? Stop hating this town. Because this town gives you everything wheter you realize it or not.

I love my town. I look for places in my town that are quirky and cool and you can escape from the town in there. They're there. Trust me, or my Schwinn. This town has given me great opportunities. This town has given me friends and memories that will last a life time. This town will always be waiting here back for me, unchanged I know it. Because it was the same old stereotyped town my Dad grew up in. It's here when I come back every weekend from my other home out east. It will be waiting here for me when my plane from London lands in at JFK, sometime soon I hope! It will be here when I show my kids where I grew up. Maybe where I met their dad, or maybe where they'll be living. Who knows.

I'm sitting in science today and I turn to stick out my tongue to my friend sitting beside me. The girl in front of him turns around and looks at me.
I try to imagine what she's thinking in her head. I think she's probably realizing that my friend and I haven't changed in the three years. I used to be friends, we both used to be friends with this girl but things went wrong and suddenly I was the cause of her losing some good relationships because I couldn't leave my angry trap shut. I had my reasons, but I took advantage of them. So as she turns her head while I tease my friends I assume she's thinking "They're still the same silly friends I left in 6th grade", but she just asks me what the design was on my shirt. They were flowers, or something like that.

It was weird. For a moment there I felt like I could be standing in the doorway of room 308 in my size 8 Converse. The ones I was so proud of in 6th grade, the ones I didn't get a speck of dirt on for a week until I made the realization the grungier they looked the better. I saw myself, 15 year old me sitting in a classroom learning about neurons and trying to think of something better to do. Me, goofing around with my friend and reminiscing on my times with my old friend.

I wondered what 6th grade me would think of 9th grade me. What size 8 black Converse would think of size 10 Kate Spade red rain boots. I could give you a guess. She'd be wondering how awkward it was sitting next to my old friend in class, she'd be so excited I was sitting next to the boy I had the biggest crush on, and she'd be wondering what high school is like. I can answer that for her, or me rather.

Dear 12 year old Madison (oh look there you are^),

It is sort of weird sitting next to her in class. I mean there's time I want to stop between cell labeling worksheets and apologize for how things ended up, and how she's been, how we've all been. Things like that. But otherwise she's changed, she has her own friends now, she keeps to herself. She seems fine and I don't think she holds a grudge against me, us? As for the guy that's sitting next to me. Familiar I hope. Don't get too excited there chicky. I wish I could've let you - me - known before hand that disappointing outcome. Anyways, high school? I have to give you credit kid. You had the right idea after all. I don't want you to start thinking pessimistically, but you were right, the school sucks. I mean don't get me wrong! We love certain parts of it, winter track, meeting new people. But you were correct about the overall atmosphere being better 'up north'. Don't worry though, we still have time to turn things around. I need you though. I need you to open my eyes back up. To show me who I am again, because things have grown a little fuzzy and you - I - had everything really sorted out back then.

From,

You

There's An Air Filled With Scare

The fall just creates this great pyramid effect with holidays, each one getting better and better.

Halloween
Thanksgiving
Christmas!

First up, Halloween. I have NO clue what I'm being this year and costume day for my high school is this Friday (we just include it in Homecoming/Spirit Week). All my friends are being the characters from Rugrats but I don't know how I'd dress up for that, and while I think it's super cute, I'm just not feeling it right now. Last year for school I was a solider and then a devil on actual Halloween. I'm thinking about being a Twister mat or a zombie, but I don't know how to pull of either let alone in four days! I loooove Halloween. My house is filled with spooky crafts, orange and black candles, and we have freaky heads and spider webs hanging outside. I've never understood how people can not love Halloween. Heeeellloooo candy and costumes? How much better can it get?!

Got any suggestions for me? (Psh, no you all never comment!!)

Woes of A Wannabe Drop Out

You could say I only feel this way because school started less than a month ago and I'm feeling those new school blues, or maybe you think all kids/teens are mindless school hating robots. But as I'm sitting there 4th period, learning how to prove triangles congruent in Geometry I stop and think: Will I EVER use this again? The answer is always, no. I realize that you need to learn these things because you never know where your life can take you but there comes a certain point where I've realized that I'm not going to be a mathmetician, and architect, or anything to do with science! Time is precious and and I shouldn't be wasting it in an acne-infested classroom learining cell structure and pythagoreom theorem. I should be out there enjoying life, helping others, and pursuing things that make ME happy! Not the people grading the SATs. I don't give a damn about scalene triangles or how Egyptians farmed.

I'm not going to be here for that long, and I don't want to look back on life and see that I spent so much time freaking out on miniscule things like how well I memorized the functions of the cell membrane. I want to be able to live a lavish life in the future but why must all this unecessary work be involved?! I'm sick of just going with the ebb and flow of school work. Look at all the people who've dropped out and were able to pursue their dreams and become super successful! Half the people we apsire to be or look up to don't even have a high school diploma. It's always nice to have a fall back but shouldn't you pursue what you want and not what's most reliable but boring?

"Hours on the phone making pointless calls
I got a desk full of papers that means nothing at all
Sometimes I catch myself staring into space
Counting down the hours 'til I get to see your face

Why must I spend my time
Filling up my mind
With facts and figures that never add up anyway?
They never add up anyway"

Stuck In The Middle.

My town has a lot of people in it. So we have two high schools- one for the north, and one for the south. Simple, yes? Eh, maybe. You see, these two sides of the town for two very short years, come together to go to middle school. This gives us the amazing opportunity to meet new friends and people, but also teaches us how to go our seperate ways, which is good to learn, but hard to go through. I live in the center. Not north, nor south. Just the middle. There's a middle of everything and that's where I live! People always say "No, no, no, you're either north or south you can't be middle! There's no middle!." But there is, and I'm stuck in it. North and south are very different, there's obviously a line drawn between them since everyone's convinced I don't like in the middle. But they mesh together fine because like all humans, they're the same in many ways. But since I live in the middle, I have to be zoned for one school district, and one only. Since the middle's so tiny, I'm either in the north or south. Unfortunately (to a certain degree), I'm zoned for south.

Not that the south is horrible, it just has a bunch of annoying qualities that I won't go into detail of. But the thing is, I'm a BLOCK away from the cut off line for north school zoning, and every since I was little I wanted to go to the north's high school. My dad went there, my cousins and aunts went there, I just think it'd be so cool to be walking down the same halls they did- plus I have a lot of friends who are going there. Since I'm a block away from the north school's it's a hassle to go down south for school, why should I drive for seven minutes when I can walk there in five?! Well anyways, during my middle school years I was given a chance to go to school with my north friends and I've always dreaded leaving them this year for high school. Well, as you know, I did. And it didn't feel much different.

Until this week.
On Wednesday we had a soccer game at there school (yes, our rivals, big whoop) and I saw all my friends from middle school, and all these familair faces, and stepping on their field looking up at their school felt like one big slap in the face. I swear, I nearly cried. Actually seeing the people I'm no longer with, at their school (what I've always considered my school) made me want to crumple up my soccer jersey and play for the other team. You never realize how much you wanted something, or missed someone until you physical see them or something that reminds you of them, or hear their voice. I've thought about all my good memories with my friends in middle school, and have talked to them online, but nothing gets me more sad than walking down to their school and seeing them all there smiling without me!

I like my high school, but I'm wondering now how things would be better or worse if I went to the school I've always wanted to go to.

I Wish This Fad Was Dead.

I think I need to get my eyes checked. That's wierd though because I have 20/20 vision... But it seems to me, every day at school, every girl is wearing a Grateful Dead t-shirt. I love the Grateful Dead but you have to understand, half these chicks don't even know what they are! "Uhm yeah, I thought the skull design was really neat..."

I'm not saying it's that wrong to wear a shirt with an iconic symbol on it and be completely oblivious...

Ok, well in my book it is. At least try to learn about what you're wearing! Because than some music freak girl like me is gonna come along and mock you because you're guessing the Grateful Dead was come cutesy 80s pop band. Nope. Try again. I'm sorry I'm so crazy judgemental with this, put it's just one of my biggest pet peeves. It's not like any of these girls are walking around with "Sugar Magnolia" stuck in their head.

So yeah, sorry if I'm tottaly overracting with this whole thing but it's super annoting when every time I ask someone wearing a shirt like this if they like the Dead they're just like "Uhm, no are they a band? Lol, I just like y'know think the like skull is cool!"

UGH!

Time To Start FRESH

You take a deep breath

And you walk through the doors

It's the mornin' of your very first day

You say hi to your friends you ain't seen in a while

And try to stay out of everybody's way

It's your freshman year

And you're gonna be here for the next four years

In this town

Hopin' one of those senior boys

Will wink at you and say you know I have'nt seen you around before

High school seems like SUCH a big deal. I guess it is. Just now that it's here, I'm starting to wonder why. Some of my friends in high school don't think much of it, but maybe they're just playing that "I'm a too cool teen" card. But some say it's the best four years of your life, so I'm thinking well what if I just so happen to mess those four years up?! I mean, what makes them sooo great anyways? Time will tell....

Am I nervous? Yes. I'm nervous that the upperclassman will be mean, I'm nervous that I'll have trouble finding my classes, I'm nervous my teachers will pile me with homework, and I'll only get worse with my soccer skills. I know this can't all happen, but still, fear is fear. It's there.

So I hope you're school year starts well! Wish me luck ♥

At A Loss For Posts

If you haven't noticed I've been sort of uninspired lately... I feel like my posts have just become shorter and shorter and no ones reading them anymore! I mean, I'll still keep writing even if no ones reading, but it's nice to know that someone out there sees this.

I'm REALLY super excited for school to start. I guess I'm just a big nerd. I wanna see my friends, go back to a routine, and there's something so exciting about high school. Just uttering the word puts chills down my spine. I wonder if high school is all it's cracked up to be.

I hate/love August. For the first week or two, everything feels like a normal summer, but then it's crunch time. You start getting your school supplies, your tan starts fading, you realize that another summer has come and gone and you basically watched it fly by under the comfort of your Ray-Bans. I guess I hate when things end. You get that whirlwind of emotions and you don't know which direction you should take. You're sad it's ending, happy it happened, regretting you didn't enjoy it as much, and anxious for the next thing to come rolling along.

I really didn't want to write about this this early. I still have a few weeks of freedom and sunshine left! But, it's been bugging me this whole week. Why can't you just speed moments up in life?! I want Autumn to start already (it's my favorite season). I try not to think about it a lot 'cause then I'm just going to waste what I have left of the summer but it's always there in my mind, creeping up on my every August, I just had to let it out!

Thanks for reading, enjoy the rest of your summer!

(Sorry there's no picture... nothing really caught my eye)

HAIR (hair hair hhhair hhaiir hair!)

I have the thickest, curliest hair ever. Whatever you say, I don't care. That's the way I'll always look at my messy mane.

To really love me I guess you have to love/put up with my hair. It's part of the package. My hair gets in the way, and is constantly falling out as weird as that sounds. I'm convinced it keeps growing I mean I have like 90 pounds of hair and that never changes even with the many strands that come loose each day. Seriously, it seems to be a hot topic with people who are close to me. I have family friends who hate my hair and always tell me it's way too wild and praise me when I take out the straightener. Same things with my friends. Some love my 'bold look' and some tell me not to shower when I straighten my hair *cough cough DANI*.

I never really started liking my hair the way it is until last year. I always wore it straight or blown out pretty much. But now I can't imagine it any other way. It sounds weird that I'm making such a big deal out of it but it is to me! I love my hair and I think it sorta personifies me. I hate fake things like fake nails, eyelashes, flippers, extensions, anything really! I hate when people try to change themselves or think they're ugly. So many girls think they're ugly now and it makes me want to vomit. I've seriously given up trying to push self-confidence as much as I should. I think for most people it just has to be like an epiphany. You can't really teach someone that sometimes. I think most people think my hair is ugly. I guess that because it's different than the straightened hair everyone goes for. That's why I had to refer to it as a 'bold look' before hand because some people I know really think it's daring. I don't know why. It's what I was born with. Some girl have silky smooth straight hair and some girls are born with wild thick curls. I took what I got and embraced it! It seems simple to me.

On Tuesday, I straightened my hair. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I mean I don't do it often; maybe like once a month or so. But with the straightening I forgot the annoying burden that always comes with it. (It's not too annoying really but I can't think of any other word).

"Did you get a hair cut?!" "What did you do to your hair?!" "I love your hair!" "Your hair looks amazing!".

No to brag, but this is what I get. True stuff. I mean I get like 10 comments a day - not lying - some from people I'm not even close with. But really, it's like a slap in my face and it has become tedious. I just want to flip out for once and say, "No you idiot! I didn't get a hair cut! It's called a straightener, and I know for a fact you can't leave the house without using yours! Thanks for the vote of confidence, next time I come in with curls I'll be sure to remember how un-amazing it looks."

And you can't forget the over used, "Why don't you wear it like that all the time?!". People don't get why I just smile meekly and thank them over and over again. To me it's just telling me that you hate my hair the way it's supposed to be. They don't get that I'm serious when I say I hate it sometimes, and that I'm not another low self-esteem girl. I hate my hair straight sometimes when I decide to wear it. I can only go for a certain amount of days without craving for a quick shower to rid it of the gross heat treatment. I like my hair straight a lot too, don't get me wrong! But why can't people understand who I am? And I'll never have the pin-straight look they're looking for. I appreciate the great comments all day, but it's okay, I've gotten the point by now. It's just your turn to get that I feel like I'm being forced to conform to something every time I crush my curls through those plates. Change is good, straight is great! But I'm a curly girl. Through and through.

So what do you think? Curly or straight? Comment if you want, but to me it seems pretty crazy to think it can cause such opinions and theories and what not, here's two favorite things people have said about my hair just 'cause I had to post these:

"Relax your hair hair its over powering you body" This was posted anonymously on my Formspring, my friend Alana and I can't get over it.

"Madison, you turned around once and your hair whipped me. I swear my face was red." - Oh that ROHAN
